The GQF Model 1502 Sportsman Egg Incubator is the ideal egg incubator for breeders looking to incubate larger quantities of eggs at a time. This egg incubator is made from durable materials that will ensure years of excellent service. Breeders using this incubator have reported extremely good hatch rates and have given us very positive feedback regarding its ease of use and durability. Laminated wood walls and galvanized shelves make for easy cleaning

• Electronic egg turning control

This ensures that eggs are turned at equal an interval each time which is critical for successful egg development during the incubation process.

Audio and visual indicators and a standard easy view door

Monitoring the temperature and humidity is easy with the Sportsman incubator. Simply look at the digital display to get updated info on the incubator. Eggs can also be viewed through the clear window built into the front of the incubator. You can even observe the hatching process when looking through the observation window.

• Complete incubation instruction booklet included

This manual contains all the info you need on operating and managing the incubator. No prior knowledge about incubating eggs is needed. Simply follow the easy instructions and you will get great hatches from your first batch of eggs.

• 3 x Tuning trays and 1 x Hatching tray

Each turning tray can hold 2 egg racks (See above for details on egg racks). The turning trays turn hourly. The hatching basket acts as a hatcher during the last few days of the incubation process. Eggs are transferred from the trays to the hatcher towards the end of the incubation cycle.

FREE Paper racks included
Sample paper racks are included with the incubator. We do however recommend that you purchase plastic egg racks which are more durable and easier to use. Click here for details on the egg racks.

Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer
The built in digital thermometer and hygrometer makes reading of temperature and humidity easy. With a large clear display it is easy to read and even easier to regulate!

Moisture pan with 2 x Wick pads (Acts as absorption pads to make the water last longer)
This provides the critical humidity necessary in the incubator in order to create the perfect incubation environment. You will need to refill the water pan every 2 to 3 days depending on your humidity needs. You can purchase the automatic humidifier as an optional extra. When using the auto humidifier you need not worry about refilling the water pan. See below for details on the automatic humidifier (Model 3030 Auto Waterer)

The GQF Sportsman Model 1502 Digital Egg Incubator Will Grow with You

If you are just starting out with your hatchery but hope to grow into a larger operation, you can start with the GQF Sportsman Model 1502 digital egg incubator as your first hatcher. This particular incubator is a great choice because it is affordable, but there is also plenty of room for multiple eggs. This means you can grow your hatchery at your own pace without needing to upgrade your equipment from season to season.

With the GQF Sportsman Model 1502 digital egg incubator, you can expect accurate temperatures with the digital thermostat. There is an LCD display that reads the temperature and humidity with only the touch of a button. If the main thermostat fails, though this is unlikely, there is a backup thermostat that will save your eggs during the incubation period. You can also rely on the egg turning control that turns your eggs at regular intervals to ensure that the eggs all develop successfully.

This is also a great incubator for beginners because it includes a complete instruction manual to help you get started. All you need to do is follow the instructions and use the equipment provided. In addition to the instruction manual, you will also receive turning trays, hatching trays, egg racks, a moisture pan, and two wick pads. The digital thermometer and hygrometer are both built in and make keeping up with the temperature and humidity easier than ever.

This is a 225-watt machine that requires a 110-volt plug. It doesn’t take up a great deal of room, measuring in at thirty inches long by fifteen inches wide, and standing at thirty-one inches high. It is quite heavy, though, as it weighs in at around ninety-six pounds. Though you receive a one-year warranty from the manufacturer, there are very few reports of this incubator experiencing any problems.

A step-up in incubation for the advanced hobbyist Review by Fred

For many years, I have used the Little Giant, Brower Top Hatch and Lyons incubators. They are all great and have their individual attributes and advantages for hatching chicks.

As demand increased for my pure bred chicks, I kept adding incubators to the collection. As I looked at the shelves of incubators, all humming away with various start and hatch dates scrawled on the schedule, it occurred to me, these things are using a lot of electricity! Not to mention the fact that they were not only heating the eggs, but the room as well.

Time to take the next step to a cabinet type incubator. The box arrived and the unit was completely assembled. I unpacked my new GQF Sportsman 1502 Incubator.

I also purchased the chicken egg inserts for the incubation trays. These had to be cut down to fit exactly in the trays, a simple thing to do.

I put the Sportsman in my hatching room and reviewed the instructions... The unit has an electronic thermostat, though there is also a hole in the side for a dial thermometer. The recommendation is to leave the factory setting and conduct a test hatch before making any adjustment to the units settings.

The interior of the cabinet is smooth and easy to wipe down. The trays insert easily and the blower/heating unit is in the upper most compartment, separated from the incubation and hatching trays by a shelf. Also in the blower/heating compartment, is the water reservoir, which has an insert to increase surface area and thus the humidity level.

My first hatch was perfect! Meaning, that the chicks pipped and hatched on the 21st day, indicating that the factory setting is spot-on! The dial thermometer, inserted in the designated hole through the cabinet side wall, gave high readings (circa 102 deg. F), for a forced air unit, the optimum temperature is 99.5 deg. F, so at first, the dial temp was alarming. I placed a calibrated digital thermometer in one of the incubation trays and it read 99.6 deg. F... so, I relaxed and assumed the dial thermometer location is simply in a "hot spot".

The BIG advantage to having this 110 volt, 250 watt unit, is... you can cascade your hatch. There are three incubation trays and one hatch tray. The hatching tray is located on the bottom, which is good, being that there will be material accumulating there as chicks pip and hatch. You don't want hatch debris to drop onto incubating eggs.

By "cascading your hatch" I mean, you can start 66 large chicken or duck eggs in the upper tray. Then, after a week, move that tray down a level and insert another tray of 66... then another week later, a third tray of eggs. By the third week, the first tray is emptied and the eggs placed (on the 18th day) into the non-tilting tray for the hatch. This frees up the first tray to be replaced with new eggs.

The top three trays automatically tilt from side to side, several times an hour. You can manually override the auto-tilt mechanism with a switch on the cabinet side... so you can level out the trays for candling or removal of eggs not developing.

There are vent holes on the back of the cabinet, which allow for air exchange control, simply by moving the aluminum dampers to cover or open the holes.

The unit comes with pressed paper quail and chicken egg trays... which I have not used. But the quail trays may be stacked in each tilt tray, which makes for a huge quail hatching capacity.

The trays are deep enough to accommodate my Emu eggs, 12 per tray. Ostrich eggs would be too large.

I use the sportsman throughout the hatching season non-stop and I am very pleased with the design, dependability of the incubation temperature and turning mechanism. (Posted on 11/23/11)
